One of the ways that children learn best is through games! At our Tampa preschool and daycare, we incorporate activities and games into everything we do, and in today’s blog post, we’re sharing a few of our favorites with you! Simon Says
This classic game is perfect for preschoolers because it helps them follow directions and pay attention. To play, one child is chosen to be Simon and the others line up in front of him or her. Simon then gives a series of commands, such as ‘touch your nose’ or ‘jump up and down.’ The other children must do what Simon says, but if he or she doesn’t say ‘Simon says’ before giving the command, they must not do it! This game is great for developing listening skills and attention span.
Musical Chairs
This is another well-known game that preschoolers always love. To set up, you’ll need one less chair than there are children playing. All of the chairs are placed in a circle facing outward and music is played. The children walk around the chairs while the music is playing, and when it stops, they all sit down in a chair. The child who doesn’t have a chair is out, and one chair is removed from the circle. The game continues until there is only one child left, who is the winner! This game helps preschoolers to develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Red Light, Green Light
This game is perfect for getting preschoolers up and moving! To play, one child is chosen to be the traffic light and the other children line up behind him or her. The traffic light then says ‘green light,’ at which point the other children can start walking toward him or her. When the traffic light says ‘red light,’ the children must stop. If any child is caught moving when the traffic light is on red, they are out! The last child remaining is the winner. This game helps preschoolers to develop self-control and understand the concepts of stop and go.
